WATSON — The Live Oak High School wrestling team had a very successful Thanksgiving break, placing first in the Dutchtown-hosted Griffin Open and a third-place finish in the Spartan Open at East Ascension High School.

Three parish wrestlers took individual firsts at Dutchtown, but the spotlight of the night shined on one of the most anticipated matches, a battle of two returning state champions from last year.

And Live Oaks’s Cody Hill came out on top, as he defeated Comeaux’s Jacob Dale in an exciting 3-1 decision in the 126-pound weight class finals.

Another championship match included a pair of Livingston Parish wrestlers, as Denham Spring’s Chris Marson claimed victory over Live Oak’s Colt Olinde with a score of 4-0 in the 106-pound weight class.

Live Oak’s Brody Bonura defeated Comeaux’s Alex Norris by a 10-4 decision to claim first in the 195-pound weight class.

Other wrestlers who placed included Live Oak’s Jacob Chenevert, third place (113 lbs), along with three of his Eagle teammates, Dean Roberts fourth (132 lbs), Seth Bosarge second (138 lbs), and Blake Brock fourth (220 lbs).

French Settlement’s Ronnie Pitre finished in the top six in the 220-pound division.

And the day before Thanksgiving at East Ascension’s Spartan Open, Live Oak finished third behind Catholic and Brother Martin.

The Eagles put four in the finals, but none of the Eagles were able to garner a first-place finish.

Live Oak’s Colt Olinde, Cody Hill, Seth Bosarge, and Brody Bonura all were runners-up in their respective weight classes. The only other Live Oak wrestler to place was Brandon Chenevert in the 160-pound weight class.

“At this time of year, we are right where we need to be,” said LOHS head coach Chris Collier. “It is good to have some success early on, but we still have many things we need to work on.”
