Honoring the area's top wrestlers: What's new in preps?

For casual prep fans in the State of Louisiana, keeping track of all of the individuals competing in various sports can be an impossible task. Indeed, with thousands of athletes and coaches to sort through, a measured approach can be a sound way of thinking.

But with all that said, certain people step forward and distinguish themselves throughout the course of a season, and those individuals earn a special recognition at the end of the season. In local wrestling, that manifests itself in the form of our All-New Orleans wrestling team and our All-Baton Rouge wrestling team.

Some names to know? How about Connor Campo of St. Paul's, the dominant force in the 132-pound class, who compiled a 106-1 record over two years? He is joined in area recognition by a slew of Brother Martin standouts -- including Coach Robbie Dauterive, 106-pound champion Mason Mauro, 285-pound winner Ross Brister, 120-pound champ Paul Klein, 182-pound victor Kyle Delaune and 170-pound title-holder Daniel Albrecht -- who combined to bring Brother Martin a team championship.

Catholic, a heavyweight in Baton Rouge having won the city championship, is well-represented with nine wrestlers on the first team. Those names include Myles Nash (220), Caleb Sutton (195), Christian Pittman (182), Matthew Moreau (170), Brandon Luckett (160), Kevin Moran (152), James Claitor (138), Phillip Nauta (120) and Mitch Napoli (113). Fighting through that amount of dominance isn't easy, but Live Oak's Cody Hill, a two-time state champ and the 2013 The Times-Picayune | NOLA.com Outstanding Wrestler, managed to do it. He's definitely a name to watch going forward … he's still just a junior.

Congratulations to all the winners.
