Cody Hill left his previous match against Catholic's Brennan Taylor with blood dripping from his head.

The Live Oak junior left Saturday's rematch with a second consecutive Baton Rouge City Championship individual title and the corresponding medal and other memorabilia.

"I'm glad I got that last win over him," Hill said. "It puts me up, 5-3, overall with him, so it's just a good confidence-builder getting ready for state and getting that last win of the season over him.  I was really looking forward to it, just to get that match back, get that loss back. I was kinda nervous about it just because of everything that happened, but once I got out there, I was ready to go."

Hill pinned his quarterfinal and semifinal opponents before climbing to a big early lead on Taylor in an eventual 11-4 victory.

The performance earned him Outstanding Wrestler honors for the lower weight classes.

"That's one of those (matchups) that they know each other so well," Catholic Coach Tommy Prochaska said. "Cody does a great job of capitalizing on mistakes, and we made several mistakes, so the score got out of hand on us. But we're the one guy that's beaten him the most out of anybody in the state. He's a very good wrestler, and Brennan's a very good wrestler."

ZACHARY BIGS STEP UP:  Zachary junior Christophe Wright pinned Catholic senior Myles Nash 1:35 into the second period of their 222-pound semifinal match and couldn't help but jump and yell.  "I just felt good," Wright said. "I don't know what, but I felt so good that I beat him because he was probably a little bit stronger than me. That was the first time I'd ever beat him."

Equally excited Zachary Coach Mark Moreau quickly made his way to the other end of the gym, hit heavyweight Ty Simpson in the chest and loudly asked, "Are you ready to join this party?"  "Myles is seeded No. 2, and we wrestled Myles in the dual meet at Zachary," Moreau said. "And in the first period, Myles pinned Chris in about 37 or 45 seconds — I don't remember what exactly it was. It was just good to get it."

Simpson obliged with a 5-1 victory against Dutchtown's Blake Pacheco, as Zachary's two biggest wrestlers began a positive momentum swing for the Broncos, who also added a pair of consolation-bracket wins.  Wright pinned top seed Brandon Thongsavanh late in the second period of the 222-pound final, whil East Ascension's Connor Karwath took a 6-4 sudden victory from Simpson in the 287-pound championship.
