CRUSADERS IMPRESS IN LONESTAR STATE

Defending Division I state wrestling champion Brother Martin is off to a flying start in the 2012-2013 season.

The Crusaders of Robert Dauterive dominated competition at the Cinco Ranch Big 12 Invitational in Katy, Texas, defeating Katy, Texas 63-13 and Katy Seven Lakes 47-13 in dual meet competition.

Brother Martin took home first place in the team competition by a solid 47.5 points over Seven Lakes High with Klein finishing third.

The Crusaders advanced eight wrestlers to the championship final and placed 13 of 14 in the top five in a terrific team effort. The Crusaders crowned six individual champions, had two second-place finishes, a pair of third-place results, one fourth-place wrestler and another who came in fifth.

Individual champions for the Crusaders included:

120--Paul Klein, 138--Dominic Casadaban, 145--Tyler Robertson, 160--Devin Leblanc, 182--Kyle Delaune and 220--Josh Tapia.

Dauterive was very pleased with his team's showing.  "The thing about the Texas kids is that they are all big strong and athletic," Dauterive said. "Seven Lakes was a very impressive bunch and I thought that we wrestled very well against them. We performed extremely well in the tournament finals. Even in a loss, heavyweight Ross Brister wrestled a great match against the No. 1 ranked heavyweight in Texas. Paul Klein was dominant during the trip. He pinned his opponent in the final in just 32 seconds."
