UPPER WEIGHT CLASSES KIND to JAYS
Two storied programs clashed on the mat at Jesuit Friday night with the home team gaining the edge in the season series.
The Blue Jays won eight of 13 matches contested, including three by pin, in a 42-19 victory over the Tigers.
Mitch Capella (113), Jackie Robinson (135) and Jimmy Brown (170) scored falls for Jesuit while Michael Yeatman (285) won by pin for the Tigers.
The meeting was the third of the season between the two super powers with Jesuit holding a 2-1 edge. Holy Cross has won 26 state championships while Jesuit has won 23 state championships, the top two winning programs in Louisiana wrestling history. The two arch-rivals will become joined in the same district in Division I next year for the first time in several years.
Jesuit wrestles in the Patriot Open at John Ehret Saturday while Holy Cross travels to Nevada to wrestle in the Las Vegas Invitational next weekend.
