PATRIOTS RULE ON HOME MATS
John Curtis proved to be a less than gracious host at their own wrestling tournament this past weekend.
The Patriots easily outdistanced Doyline to capture the team title with 183 points. Doyline finished with 124 points while Calvary Baptist was third with 101. Episcopal of Baton Rouge was fourth with 89 points and Lakeside was fifth with 87.
Curtis had five individual champions, including Prentice Spurlock (106), G'Corey Fullilove (160), Baron Clofer (170), Mason Pembo (220) and Spencer Lemoine (285).
Doyline had a pair of champions, including Cole Pannell (126) and Peyton Goerner (182).
Defending state champion Alex Martin (152) of De La Salle captured a title for his team.
Tyler Sullivan (185) was as winner for Calvary Baptist while Bradley Wright (113) won for Evangel Christian. Kolby Comeaux (120) of South Cameron was a winner, along with Cameron Corley (132) of Lakeside, defending state champion Josh Wicke (138) of Grand Lake and James Davis (145) of Episcopal.
Curtis finished second in the state to Brusly in Division III in 2012 and the Patriots figure to provide stiff competition for the Panthers again this year in the state tournament February 15-16 at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.
