Wrestling: Catholic high takes lead halfway through Baton Rouge City Championships

They came in as the clear favorite and they have performed like the clear favorite thus far.

 

Host Catholic High of Baton Rouge opened up a 25-point lead over Live Oak after the opening day of the Baton Rouge City Wrestling Championship Friday.

 

Catholic has 124 points while Live Oak has 99. Dutchtown is third with 95 points. Defending Division III state champion Brusly is fourth with 79 points and East Ascension is fifth with 66 points.

 

Catholic advanced 11 of its 14 wrestlers to Saturday's semifinals, led by Brandon Luckett at 162 pounds. Dutchtown and Live Oak each advanced nine wrestlers to the final four while Brusly has seven East Ascension has six wrestlers still alive. Cody Hill (128) leads the charge for Live Oak while Alex Betteridge (108) leads the way for East Ascsnsion while Brandon Cowell (140) is looking good for Dutchtown.

Catholic is seeking its 11th consecutive Baton Rouge City Championship title.
