1987 Ken Cole Invitational

The Northside Vikings, coached by Ricky Vcknair, scored 200 points and became the second school to win the tournament twice. South Cameron won the initial tournament in 1977 and repeated in 1978. In 1984 Vicknair's Vikings accumulated 229 points to set the tournament team scoring record. The team champion has scored 200 points or more only three times, twice by Northside. The Vikings had three champions : Shannon Castille (132 lbs.), Ryan Judice (185 lbs.) and Wyatt Smith (210 lbs.). For the first time the Outstanding Wrestler and Most Pins-Least Time awards were won by the same wrestler, Guy Mistretta (145 lbs.) of Redemptorist, en route to an undefeated season in his senior year. Mistretta and Ramon Green (126 lbs.) of Haughton each won their second Lafayette Invitational title.
