1980 4th Annual Lafayette Invitational Tournament*

The Capitol Golden Lions from Baton Rouge dominated the 19 team tournament with 192 points to 157 for runner-up Brusly.  The Golden Lions of Coach Edgar Fullwood placed ten wrestlers among the top six place winners in the 12 weight classes.  Gilbert Joe of Jeanerette moved up to 155 lbs., won, and was again named Outstanding Wrestler to become the only two-time winner of that award.  Joe dominated his weight class by winning each of his four matches by pin in a total of 3 minutes, 36 seconds.  The MOst Pins-Least Time trophy was won by Roger Halphen (HWT) from Buras with five pins in 16 minutes, 17 seconds.
