1983 Ken Cole Invitational

In 1983 25 schools were in the Lafayette Invitational and the team championship ended in a tie between Baker and Jeanerette at 174 points each. West Jefferson edged Bossier for third place with 156 points to 152.5. In tying for first place, Baker had the overall team depth. Baker's only wrestler in the finals was Willie Green who won at 132 lbs. Including Green, Baker placed seven wrestlers in the top five in the 13 weight classes. Jeanerette had four in the finals. All four won, including Lenny Guillotte in the 119 lb. weight class, which had been won by his brother Richard the previous two years. Jeanerette's other winners were Robert Mestayer (138 lbs.), Clarence Sutton (155 lbs.) and Robert Shelton (167 lbs.)
