1984 Ken Cole Invitational

The Northside High Vikings overpowered the 28 team field and set a new team scoring record in the process with 229 points, breaking the team scoring record which had been set by South Cameron with 208 points in the second tournament in 1978. No other team had reached 200 points. There was a three-way battle for second, third and fourth with Baker finishing second with 165.5 points, Acadiana finishing third with 161 and Bossier finishing fourth with 159.5 points. Benny Lane of Northwood High School was selected as the Outstanding Wrestler in winning the 119 lb. weight class. The Most Pins-Least Time trophy was won by Tim Smith of Buras who finished third at Heavyweight. He recorded four pins in 5:47. The Most Pins-Least Time trophy had been won four times by wrestlers with four pins, but none had their four pins in less time than recorded by Smith. In the first tournament, the Most-Pins-Least Time trophy was won with three pins in a total of 5:51. In the other three tournaments the Most Pins-Least Time was won by wrestlers with five pins.
