1985 9th Annual Lafayette Invitational Tournament*

Thirty-one schools competed, a record number of teams to date.  The East St. John Wildcats coached by Harold Bourgeois made their first appearance at the tournament a success by capturing the team title with 155 points.  East St. John had two champions, Darnell Howard (112 lbs.) and Alvin Scimineaux (132 lbs.), one runner-up, Johnell Howard (119 lbs.) and four others who placed in the top six.  The defending champion Northside Vikings finished second with 126.5 points.  The Haughton Buccaneers edged the Robert E. Lee Rebels for third place with 118.5 points to 118 points for Lee.  Carencro was fifth with 114 points followed by Comeaux in sixt place with 111 points.  The Comeaux Spartans, the host school since 1982, had their first individual champion with Brian McCauley winning the 155 lb. weight class.  Later in the season, McCauley also became Comeaux's first individual State Champion winning the 155 lb. Division I title.
