Caleb Leveé - 2002-03 Wrestling Season
Caleb began wrestling with The Grapplers in Covington under the instruction of Coach Craig Ketelsen at the age of 12. When he was in 8th grade and a student at Northlake Christian School, he was given permission to represent the school in the junior high wrestling league in New Orleans. He competed against all the Louisiana junior high wrestling teams and was undefeated in his weight class. Jim Ravanack, a USA Wrestling board member from Louisiana, was monitoring Caleb's progress and suggested that he compete at the high school level for better competition. His first high school tournament as an 8th grader was the highly rated Lee High Invitational in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He finished 4th, and it was noted that he was the first 8th grader ever to finish in the top six place finishers. He went on to make it to the finals in Division III of the state competition, becoming only the 3rd person in 57 years to qualify for a finals match as an 8th grader. He fought to a 13-10 loss and took second at state.
As a freshman he transferred to Mandeville High School, a Division I school (for state tournament purposes). At the state tournament he was defeated in the semi-finals by a senior and two-time state champion from Lafayette High School. They wrestled to double-overtime and he lost by one point. He went on to win his consolation matches and took 3rd at state.
This year [sophomore] he has won eight championships including the Metro (City of New Orleans) Championship, and for his third consecutive time, the St. Tammany Parish Championship. He has a record of 33 wins and three losses, with 25 pins. He is entering the 2003 LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament as the number three seed in the 119# weight class. His hopes are very high that he will win his first state championship this year.
